About Me

John Elmer Kaufmann

The Basics:

John has been a freelance commercial artist for over 20 years. He mainly has illustrated educational science books.  See Here.

He also has been creating his own art for the sci/fi fantasy community sending work to art shows around North America.

He lives in the verdant hills of Missouri and loves natural beauty. He attends as many conventions as time allows as a Guest of Honor or an attendee. He has spent many a night talking sci/fi until sunrise.

Why do I create art?

The two main reasons I create art are as follows:

SPACE ART

I feel deeply compelled by my love of science to use my imagination to study exciting places in our universe. I try to mentally process all the known facts about a given subject and to explore what we might expect to find when we finally arrive at a new unexplored place.

DRAGONS

I create Dragons to explore ideas about the all surrounding chaos that affects our lives in so many ways. It ranges from a simple appreciation of the beautiful raw power of nature to the catastrophic life altering events that eventually strike everyone.

In both cases I would like to help make things we know little about, or things we fear to feel a bit more familiar so it’s not so formidable.
